BANTARAY SLIPS TO ANOTHER DEFEAT AS THE GREEN ARROW REGISTERS HIS FIRST WIN
Luke 'Bantaray' Manterfield: 0
It seems that the Bantaray is still in free-fall at the bottom of the League as he recorded another straight loss at 501 Friday, this time against the Green Arrow, Rob Olley. Nothing went Luke’s way in the opening exchanges, throwing shockingly until the fourth leg, the only part of the match which proved any sort of challenge for Rob. 3-0 down, Bantaray was first to throw on the fourth leg and ramped up a reasonable lead in the first few visits. But disaster struck on what could have been the Bantarays finishing dart - had he been able to perform simple mathematics in his head. He’ll be wishing he’d spent less time enjoying banter and more time studying maths when he should have been throwing for double 16. Instead his throw left him with a score of 15. Whilst it was very conceivable that Luke could pull at least 1 leg back in this match after setting himself up for a double 5 finish with two attempts, it seems the jokes were once again on the Bantaray as he sunk his arrows just the other side of the wire. The Green Arrow then stepped up and on his first dart struck gold and completed the whitewash.
After losing 4-0 in his opening match to The Architect, Rob’s campaign is quickly back on track with this strong victory.
ALL SQUARE FOR THE CALCULATOR
Matt 'Needles' Brindley: 2
Ace remains unbeaten in the UoB Premier League with his second successive draw against Matt ‘Needles’ Brindley. The draw halts Matt’s winning run and slows his climb back up the league table after defeat in his first match. Alternatively, on the back of an impressive draw with Tank, Ace’s trademark celebratory jig is a sign that the Calculators confidence is growing with each leg he plays.
Ace 'The Calculator' Kelly: 2

It was Ace who settled first in the match-up, taking a huge lead in the opening leg. Unfortunately for the Calculator he failed to capitalise on this cushion, allowing Needles to snatch the lead. Responding well to this set back, the Calculator brought the scores level in the second as Matt struggled on the doubles this time round. The Calculator went behind again in the third for the second time in the match as Needles looked in good shape for more than just a point from the encounter. But the Calculator was not about to run out of battery, holding his nerve better than Matt in the final leg to earn himself a draw.
In his post-match interview with fellow UoB competitors Matt described this game was ‘the tensest match that he had ever played.’ However it was Ace’s jig that remained firmly in the minds of the rest of the UoB competitors!
Matt 'Tank' Waters: 1
John 'Mount' Everest: 3
Mount made it three wins from three as he makes his way, somewhat unconvincingly, to the top of the UoB league with victory over Tank in Week Three.
After setting off well in the opening leg, John missed the chance at a sub 20 dart leg with wayward double finishing. As it looked like Tank might seize the early momentum, John eventually took out his double and thus an early lead. The second leg was a carbon copy of the first and as Tank looked as if he was about to draw level, Mount extended his lead by two. Tank had the better of early exchanges in the third leg and quickly got down to the double with his best scoring of the match so far. The tension Mount had experienced in the first two legs seemed to have passed onto Tank, who now struggled to take his opportunity at the double. With the pressure off, Mount stole the leg after slowly getting onto a double, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead. Tank may well have been asking himself ‘what if’ at the end of the match as he cruised to the double in the final leg with more consistent scoring. With John a long way back, Tank hit double 19 without any further anxiety – nothing more than a consolation present in the context of the match.
John dedicated his victory to Avram’s brave but wounded squad – especially Tommy Smith (Broken Nose) and Richardo Rocha (Fractured Cheek) who were viciously assaulted by Chelsea Rentboys Sturridge and Malouda this week.
