A Face for Photoshop

Jack Chambers has been a part of some memorable moments this year in the UoB Premier League. He has hit as many 61+ checkouts as anybody else this season and no-one can forget the vital part he played in the longest leg recorded in the competition against Luke. But did anyone notice the subtle photoshop work on the previous post concerning his new modelling work for Logo Sports and UoB Panthers?

J-Bird Becomes Face of UoB Darts

Jack Chambers has been a little quiet at the oche in the last few weeks, what with exams and jetting around the world to spend time with his girlfriend. But J-Bird has been putting in the hours with the design team at Logo Sports (company producing UoB's brand new dart shirts) and also in front of the camera showcasing the latest UoB merchandise. J-Bird (pictured below) is modelling the beanie he has made his trademark at darts practice this season. He will be hoping to take his modelling form back to the oche as he looks to finish off his season in a bit of style.

The Green Arrow fires his final darts in the UoB Premier League

Rob Olley signs off this 2010 campaign with a draw against Will 'The Hitman' Burley at Wood-Shot Wednesday. The Green Arrow needed to comeback twice in a real ding-dong of a match to claim a point against the Hitman, who was having better luck with his doubles in this encounter.

Rob, who plays in the Brighton Leagues has been a tremendous asset to the UoB Premier League this year. Although his commitment to his Brighton Team is of a priority, he has done wonderfully well to play in all of the Wood-Shot Wednesday's and complete his league matches before anyone else. With his contacts in the Brighton leagues, hopefully The Green Arrow will switch from player to agent in the forthcoming weeks and months and bring a few more players to the UoB next season.

Cheers, Rob!

Needles makes his point in the UoB Premier League

It is no a secret within the UoB Premier League that Matt 'Needles' Brindley is one of the most improved players in the competition this year. Like all players, Matt has his off days - but what makes him a dangerous competitor is that the standard of his darts on the better days are getting better and better as the season reaches its climax.

With two wins out of two, this round of Wood-Shot Wednesday easily belonged to Matt, who started off the day with a convincing 3-1 win against Adam 'A-Train' James. After racing into a 3-0 lead, A-Train pinched the final leg as both players missed darts at a double.

In his second match Needles went up against an inform Matt 'Tank' Waters, playing for a place in the top four. Tank had the better of the opening leg but failed to leave himself on decent double. As soon as Needles lined up double 20, the man from Hassockes made Tank pay and edged into an early lead. Confidence continued to grow for Needles as he increased his scoring and applied further pressure on his opponent, closing out the next leg in 29 darts with double 6.

Tank took the third to keep any hopes of a draw alive but then failed to get off to a good start in the fourth. With Needles was left on 28, Tank stepped up to the oche looking at shanghai for a share of the points and also the chance to knock Ace off the top of the Whitlock award. The width of the wire was all that separated Tank from a splendid checkout and a crucial point in the context of his league campaign. After seeing Tank come so close to nailing the 120 finish, Needles seemed relaxed and completely in control of the situation as he switched casually from looking at double 14, to hitting 8 and double 10 in two darts. There are certain areas on the board that you just fancy Needles when he's aiming at doubles; 20, 10 or 6 being the main ones. Unfortunately for Tank these were the areas that Needles struck heavily in the match.

Tank was left bitterly disappointed with the result as he is now reliant on other results to get into the top four. Needles became the third player in the UoB Premier League to be accompanied to a match with a WAG, a trend set early on by the Chelsea's Prodigal Son, Jack Chambers. Needles claims his biggest scalp of the season and looks forward to finishing his season on a high against an unbeaten Karl.

UoB Committee Candidates

As this season approaches its dramatic finale, UoB Darts continues to work hard behind the scenes to create a strong structure to take the club forward next season. A new five man committee will be announced on June 3rd, which promises to expand the club, attract new players (male and female), funding and sponsorship as well as compete in more competitions and matches with other local Brighton based teams and Universities up and down the country.

The candidates looking for a vote of confidence from the majority of the Premier League Players are the following...

Will 'The Hitman' Burley - President
Matt 'Tank' Waters - Vice President
Luke 'Bantaray' Manterfield - Vice President/Secretary
Rob 'The Green Arrow' Olley - Assisting Secretary
Andrew 'The Black Adder' Pranger - Treasurer

Off the Streets and up to the Oche

The committee behind UoB Darts have wasted little time in recruiting players for next season. Tommy 'The Bullet' Streets is the first to join the club hoping to be very busy in the transfer window prior to the Freshers Fair in August. The Bullet has the potential to become a big hit as he signs up for next years UoB Premier League, a competition that could have a dramatic reformation under the new committee.

Top marks for Bantaray as the Architect hits top form - Wood-Shot Wednesday

Ohhhhhhh Wood-Shot!

Unbeaten runs come to a end in the latest instalment of Wood-Shot Wednesday, this time with more magic moments, great scoring, quick legs, superb checkouts, whitewashes and shock results.

After taking a valiant point from his match with Jason 'The Architect' Coe last week, Luke 'Bantaray' Manterfield, fresh from a gruelling exam as well, defeated 'Mount' 3-1 for his first win of the season and thus ending the big-man's five match unbeaten run. Brimming with confidence Luke inflicted a 4-0 defeat to Ace 'The Calculator' Kelly to take him well away from the foot of the table with a total of 7 points. Sandwiched between these wins, Luke slugged out a 2-2 draw with Adam 'A-Train' James - who switched to marathon mode again to catch up with matches he missed at the start of the campaign.

The Architect looked in fine form throughout the day with four spectacular wins, brushing past all his opponents with consistent scoring and a string of excellent checkouts. Jason finished the day with statistics of...

Scoring = 18 x 100+
Legs Under 30 = 8 (quickest of 21)
Checkouts (above 60) = 2 (74 and 66)

Along the way, Jason made the most of a 2-0 lead against Mount go to the top of the table. A thoroughly convincing display from The Architect, with 7 scores of 100+ and 2 legs under 30, left little chance for John to make up for his earlier loss in the day.

Perhaps the best match witnessed in the league so far involved Jason and Matt 'Needles' Brindley, in which all four legs were won in under 30 darts - The Architect came out victorious 3-1 and remains undefeated in 8 games.

However, Matt 'Tank' Waters dream of a perfect bull-off record was shattered by Will 'The Hitman' Burley in a tense and difficult battle between two great (but very competitive) friends. The Hitman threw some of the best darts in his Premier League career to date, matching Jason's impressive statistics of 7 scores of 100+ in one match. Despite his rhythm on the 20, Tank held his nerve better at the double to take an unassailable 3-0 lead. Fuming, literally fuming, The Hitman fought back to take the last in 27 darts.

Tank's has been in excellent form since losing his one and only match of the league back in March. Since then he has accumulated points steadily and appears in a very good position to make it into the top four. The Hitman may well claim that he was robbed, but Tank's main concern going into next round of fixtures is preventing allegations of match-fixing that were keenly expressed by the Calculator, Ace Kelly, materialising and circulating in the media... the details of The Calculator's allegations seemed to be made in a foreign language and were immediately dropped with no interpretor present.

2010-2011 Committee Candidates

Will Burley and Andrew Pranger have put themselves forward for roles in the UoB committee for next year. Andrew will be considered for the role as Treasurer and Will for Club President.

If any other members of the team (UoB Premier League) would like to put themselves forward for these positions (Secretary is another position that needs to be filled) then please message me asap.

Voting will be cast on by Wednesday 2nd June.

The Green Arrow Flying High

With only two games left to play in his season, Rob Olley created a significant gap at the top of the UoB Premier League on the back of a brilliant performance at Wood-Shot Wednesday.

Rob recorded 5 sub-30 dart legs from the 6 matches he played on the day, hitting over 15 scores of 100 or more along the way. The Green Arrow will play Will 'The Hitman' Burley and Karl 'The Sex Panther' Fox in his two remaining fixtures, looking to claim spot in the top four for the title play-off.
